The Best Battery Powered Security Cameras of 2021

Do you want a security camera without an adapter? These are the best of the best.

Battery powered security cameras not only give you more freedom of installation than their wired counterparts, but also typically have weather resistant housings for outdoor use. That means you can install a wireless security camera on a fence, in a tree, or almost anywhere, whenever your Wi-Fi network reaches it, to strengthen your home security system, monitor your home, and help to deter intruders.

We chose three models especially for a variety of reasons, though we did take into account the video quality, the field of view, whether it offered a mobile app and recording options, whether it connects to your existing smart home setup, and of course The battery life. The Arlo Pro 3 is our favorite versatile camera . Since it also runs on batteries, it’s my favorite on this list.

We like the Blink XT2 for its reasonable price and long battery life (up to two years). The third and final camera on the list, Logitech Circle 2 , offers a wide range of compatible accessories to further expand your battery-powered convenience (and as a battery-powered security camera, it’s already pretty convenient). So read on if you are looking for the best battery powered security camera to meet your outdoor wireless security needs .

The Arlo Pro 3 Home Security Camera is battery powered so you can mount it on a tree or fence without having to think about an annoying power cord. This wireless camera is also weatherproof to cope with different climates and is supposed to last a few months on a single charge, depending on usage. Basically it is absolutely perfect for outdoor security.

In addition to its convenient rechargeable battery, the Pro 3 has many standout features: a built-in siren; arm / disarm modes; and motion detection alerts for people, animals, vehicles and packages (with an optional Arlo Smart subscription plan). The device also enables two-way communication and has both color and black-and-white night vision for a clear view of what’s going on in your yard. And the video quality is top notch.

If you are looking to incorporate your wireless outdoor security camera into your smart home system, the Pro 3 works with Alexa and Google Assistant.

The Blink XT2 is a  battery powered camera and sync module. The Sync module is supposed to extend the battery life of the camera and help the app and camera communicate via the wireless signal.

If you already have a sync module from a previous Blink purchase, you should also be able to use it with the XT2. If that’s the case, you only need to purchase the camera independently. You could also get some accessories to put together a complete set of security cameras.

The camera has 1080p HD live streaming, alerts, free cloud storage, night vision, and weatherproof housing. Send push notifications to your smartphone through an app when your sensor detects movement. The weatherproof device also offers two-way communication. It runs on two AA lithium and metal batteries that are supposed to last up to two years.

We’ve been testing since September 2019, and it’s still getting stronger. The Blink XT2 works with Alexa. Read more about the Blink XT2 .

Logitech The Logitech Circle 2 comes in two versions: the corded model and the battery model. We reviewed the corded model, but took time testing both.

The battery powered Circle 2 is a solid camera. Like the Pro 3 and Blink XT2, the Circle 2 connects to your wireless network and is weatherproof. It has 1080p HD live streaming for sharp image, night vision, two-way talk, and a time-lapse feature. It is supposed to last one to three months on a single charge. It also offers free 24-hour cloud storage, storing motion-based videos for 10 to 60 seconds. Push notifications are sent through the app to your phone when the camera detects movement.

It also works with a variety of accessories: the plug mount, a window mount and a magnetic mount. If you use the plug or window mount with your Circle 2 battery-powered camera, it will work with Siri (via Apple HomeKit and HomeKit Secure Video), as well as its standard Amazon Alexa mount.

Annoying, the battery-powered Circle 2 isn’t compatible with Apple HomeKit without the window mount plug and accessories. ( Read more about that on Logitech here .)
